Who this policy is from
This site is operated by Mian Productions & Entertainment LLC, trading as DJ Mian, a wedding and event DJ business working throughout California. You can reach us at info@djmian.com or (408) 334-4499.
This policy covers djmian.com. It does not cover any other site you reach from a link here.
What we collect
Information you give us. When you send an enquiry through the booking form, email us or call, we receive what you choose to tell us: usually your name, email address, phone number, event date, venue and what you are planning. We keep that so we can answer you and, if you book, run your event.
Information collected automatically. Like most websites, this one records basic usage data: which pages were viewed, roughly where the visit came from, the type of device and browser, and how visitors arrived. This is collected through Google Analytics and is used to understand which pages are useful. We do not use it to identify you personally.
Information we do not collect. There is no shop on this site. We never take card or bank details through it, and we do not ask for government identification. Payment for a booking is handled separately, through the booking platform, after a contract is in place.
Cookies and third-party services
Some parts of the site are provided by other companies, and those companies set their own cookies and receive data directly from your browser:
- Google Analytics measures site usage, and tells Google Ads when a visit came from one of our adverts.
- Meta (Facebook and Instagram) receives a record of the pages you visit here, through a pixel on every page. We use it to measure our adverts and to show them to people who have been here before.
- HoneyBook handles consultations and contracts, and has a tracking pixel on the services page. The availability form on the contact page is our own: what you send through it goes to us by email and is kept in our own database, and no third party receives it.
- YouTube and SoundCloud provide the embedded videos and mixes.
Each of those has its own privacy policy, which governs what it does with the data it receives. You can turn off cookies in your browser settings, and Google publishes a browser add-on that opts you out of Analytics entirely. Blocking cookies may stop the booking form or the embedded videos working.
How we use it, and who sees it
We use what you send us to reply to your enquiry, prepare a quote, and plan and perform at your event. We use usage data to improve the site.
We do not sell your personal information, and we never pass on what you send us through the form. Your name, email, phone number, date and the details of your event go to us and stay with us. No advertising company receives them.
We do share browsing data for advertising. Google and Meta receive a record of the pages you look at here, and we use it to measure our adverts and to show them to people who have visited before. Under California law that counts as sharing even though we are paid nothing for it, so we say so plainly rather than leave you to guess. It is the browsing that is shared, not your enquiry.
Otherwise, the only parties who see your information are the service providers listed above, who process it on our behalf, and anyone we are legally required to disclose it to.
How long we keep it
Enquiries are kept while we are in conversation with you, and booking records are kept afterwards for as long as we need them for accounting and tax purposes. If you would rather we deleted your enquiry, ask and we will.
Your rights
If you live in California, the California Consumer Privacy Act gives you the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to ask us to correct or delete it, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell anything. We do share browsing data with Google and Meta for advertising, as described above, and you can opt out of that. Exercising any of these rights will not get you worse service.
To opt out of the advertising sharing: email us at the address below and we will honour it, or block cookies for this site in your browser, or use Google's Analytics opt-out add-on and the ad settings in your Meta account. A browser sending a Global Privacy Control signal is treated as an opt-out request.
To make a request, email info@djmian.com. We may need to confirm who you are before we act on it.
The DJ Mian planning app
Separately from this website, we run a planning app at plan.djmian.com, where couples and their guests choose music and work through event details with us. If you have been sent a link to the app, this section applies to you. Everything above describes this website; everything below describes the app.
What the app stores
- Your name and email address, so we know whose event it is and can send you your link again if you lose it.
- The music you choose: the songs you add, the ones you mark as must-play, and anything you tell us not to play.
- Your answers to our planning questions, and any notes you write to us.
- Your event details: date, venue, timings, and the running order.
We do not collect payment details or identity documents in the app. We do not sell any of it, and we do not share it with anyone outside your event.
Who can see it
Only you, anyone else you are planning with, and your DJ. Guests you invite with a guest link can only see the sections opened up to guests, usually the dance floor and requests, and cannot see the rest of your plan.
Song search and YouTube
The app lets you search for music. That search uses YouTube API Services.
By using the search you agree to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service. Google's handling of data is described in the Google Privacy Policy.
When you search, the words you type are sent to YouTube so it can return matching songs. We store the songs you actually choose so your DJ knows what to play. Search results we hold to make repeat searches faster are refreshed or deleted within 30 days, other than the video identifier itself.
We do not download, copy or extract audio or video from YouTube. The app also searches Apple's and Spotify's catalogues, and can create a playlist in your DJ's own Spotify account from the songs chosen for the event.
How long we keep app data
Your event stays available while we are planning, and afterwards as part of our records of work performed. You can ask us to delete it at any time.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account and its data from within the app, under My account. Doing so removes your login and your profile. Songs and answers you contributed stay with the event so your DJ can still run it, unless you ask us to remove those too.
Revoking access
If you connected Spotify, you can disconnect it inside the app at any time, and you can also remove access from your Spotify account page at spotify.com/account/apps.
Getting in touch about the app
Email info@djmian.com for access to your data, corrections, deletion, or any question about the above.
Children
This site is meant for adults planning events. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has sent us something, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If what we do changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top will tell you when it last did.
